Yup… That's right. No offense, but if you want to know why everyone is potentially going to be unsubscribed from the You Can Work Less Email Newsletter list and how you can stay subscribed, I'll let you know at the end of this post.
Focus focus focus
Part of building a great community is having something in common. Just as you probably learned growing up, it's not the quantity of friends but the quality. Well, If you saw the post about how the You Can Work Less started to grow quite rapidly, it was very apparent that although there are now a lot of members in the community not all of them add value.
Who's fault is that? All mine. Sorry.
The Mission of the Community
If you've been a long-time reader the purpose of You Can Work Less is to:
- Help men (and women) spend more quality time with their family.
- Provide productivity tips and tricks to help you to be more effective at work or in your business.
- Teach you how to use that extra time to start a business or edifying hobby.
That being said… I am afraid that the majority of people in the community signed up just to get a free proposal template. Nothing bad about that, but when you get emails talking about stuff that is irrelevant to the person that signed up – then it's not right.
The Solution (and how to stay subscribed)
I will be completely changing the newsletter to only focus on the things mentioned above.
After November 30th, all new community members that subscribe to the newsletter will have to apply in order to be on the newsletter.
Well… I am going to be sharing a lot of high-quality information and will also be doing some periodic Q and A webinars. that being said, it's important that only those that are serious are on the list so that others who are not don't steal the value.
How to Stay In The Community
If you don't want to be unsubscribed, you will need to do the following – leave a comment on this post and answer the following 3 questions:
- Why do you want to stay subscribed?
- What has been the most valuable resource that you've received from being a part of the community?
- What do you wish I would shut up about (i.e. what is the most worthless thing on this blog/newsletter that keeps coming up and you wish were gone?)
Come November 30th, we will have a higher quality community.
I wanted to give a quick update on two things.
First… I have had a number of people unsubscribe from the list. Some said that what I asked them to do was too hard, and others said I was rude. All I can say is that made my job a little easier, thanks! 🙂
Second, yes this is for real. Come November 30th all who haven't responded below will be unsubscribed. New subscribers will go through a application-type process. Everyone can still read and comment on the blog, but the newsletter and material in it will only be for people that actually want it and will benefit from it.
I am already excited about the crew that is going to be a part of it. Thanks for taking the time out of your busy schedule to validate that you want to be a part of the community.
